Hiding files in a folder is not good enough if you want those files to remain private, if you don’t want others to access them. A proper approach is to encrypt and password protect the files that you want to remain “for your eyes only.” This is where encryption software, such as the OleanSoft-developed CryptTime, come in. No one but you will be able to access the files encrypted with this security tool.

To get started with CrypTime, you will first have to download a 491KB archive. After you extract the contents of the archive and run the cryptime_setup executable, a setup wizard will guide you through the process of installing CrypTime. The application works with any Windows version from Windows 98 onward. The whole process of downloading, extracting and installing CrypTime will take very little time to complete.

The application’s interface couldn’t be easier to use. All you have to do is select the files you want to encrypt, select the password you want to use and select a timerlock, choose if you want to delete the original files after encryption and if the files can be decrypted only from this computer, and then hit the “Encrypt” button. Things couldn’t be easier.

About the timerlock feature, I've mentioned it above. That’s the ace that CrypTime has in its sleeve. Not only that you can encrypt files, you can also set a timerlock so the files can be decrypted only during a specified time. Even if the correct password is provided, the files will not be decrypted if it contradicts the time period you specified. Say you go on vacation for a week, encrypt some files and set the timerlock for a week from now. No one will be able to decrypt those files during that week.

If you encrypt files with CrypTime and send them to someone else, that someone else needs to have CrypTime installed on his machine in order to be able to decrypt the files.

CrypTime is a handy tool that can protect your privacy. It will encrypt files so that no one but you can access them and it will put a timerlock on the encrypted files so they can only be decrypted based on the time rules you specify.

Pros

Lightweight download that takes little time to complete. Works with any Windows version from Windows 98 onward. A very simple and easy to use interface. Encrypt and password protect files, set a timerlock for encrypted files.

Cons

The interface feels a bit dated.
